What Is LaserWave™ Therapy?
LaserWave™ is a combined treatment approach available at Carolina ChiroCare & Rehab. It brings together two therapies we also offer individually:
- Deep Tissue Laser Therapy uses therapeutic light energy directed at the treatment area.
- Shockwave Therapy uses acoustic waves applied to targeted muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues.
When appropriate, Dr. Gerdes may incorporate both into the same treatment plan rather than using either therapy alone.
How LaserWave™ Treatment Works
LaserWave™ combines two different forms of treatment during a coordinated care plan. Each therapy works differently, which is why they may be used together for certain conditions.
Deep Tissue Laser Therapy
- Delivers targeted therapeutic light energy.
- Treatment settings depend on the area and condition.
- Does not involve injections or incisions.
Shockwave Therapy
- Delivers acoustic pulses to the targeted area.
- Commonly used for certain tendon and soft tissue problems.
- Intensity and treatment location are adjusted individually.
Using both treatments does not automatically make LaserWave™ appropriate for every patient. We first evaluate the condition and determine whether one or both therapies make sense.
What Does LaserWave™ Treatment Feel Like?
The laser portion is generally well tolerated and may produce mild warmth in the treatment area. Shockwave therapy produces a series of acoustic pulses that can feel more noticeable, and the intensity can be adjusted based on the treatment area and patient comfort.
Treatment experience varies depending on the condition and location being treated.
Why Combine Laser and Shockwave Therapy?
Some musculoskeletal conditions may benefit from more than one treatment approach. LaserWave™ allows us to incorporate both technologies when examination findings indicate that doing so may be appropriate.
